Always use a gas safe engineer to carry out work
Insulate your walls and roof to reduce heating bills
For safety & efficiency have your boiler serviced annually - during the summer is generally the best time to do this
Check that your time clock/control is set correctly
If you havent already, get a room thermostat installed to control the central heating to reduce fuel bills
Ensure that all pipes are lagged to prevent freezing condensates in winter

Invest in a modern combination/condensing boiler, they are much more energy efficient than older boilers
